The Excavation series I began exploring in 2014 has been an extension and further exploration into the capabilities of the clay body in addition to commenting on my perspectives on the state of the world. Beginning with a solid block of clay, I dig through the material, allowing the clay to dictate the routes of penetration and guide my hands. This meditative process exposes and highlights the structure as form; when the unnecessary falls away, what's left is the skeletal scaffolding that supports.
